Pocono Mountain Vacation Properties (PMVP), which has hosted budget-minded travelers in private vacation rental homes since 2009, announces the launch of its new website at poconomountainvacation.com.

Travelers to the popular tourist destination in Northeastern Pennsylvania can now easily book one of PMVP’s vacation rental homes directly from the website, potentially saving up to 10% in service fees being added by some of the large vacation rental websites (including Homeaway/VRBO — recently purchased by Expedia — AirBnB, and TripAdvisor/Flipkey).

The new site includes general information about the Poconos region as well as details about the amenities and activities at Arrowhead Lake in Pocono Lake, PA, and at Big Boulder Lake in Lake Harmony, PA — adjacent to Big Boulder Ski Resort. PMVP owns or manages seven properties in these recreational communities. Photos and descriptions for each property are also included, and booking can be completed directly from the website.

The decision to design an independent website was driven by increasing challenges and costs presented by marketing private vacation rentals on the major travel sites. The larger sites require owners and property managers to adhere to their standard rental, cancellation and security deposit policies, which are not always the best options for owners nor travelers. Travelers may also be charged a service fee ranging from 4-10%, which can add hundreds of dollars to the total cost of a rental.

PMVP will continue to list its properties on the popular websites for the foreseeable future. However, travelers are encouraged to carefully evaluate whether service fees offer any real value, and to instead consider communicating and booking directly with property managers and owners.
